The collection contains materials from the Fourth Regional Local History Conference “The Past of the Native Region – A Message to the Future”, dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the liberation of the Vratsa region from Ottoman rule. Organizers – Regional Inspectorate of Education – Vratsa and Regional Library “Hristo Botev” – Vratsa.
The reports of the participants are included in the first part of the collection “The Liberation”: “In Memory and in Hearts – Historical Figures and Events and Their ‘Folk Biographies’: the Shishman dynasty, voivode Radan, Queen Kuna, Sophronius of Vratsa, Dimitraki Hadzhitoshev, Nikola Voyvodov, Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, the heroes and volunteers of the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation”, “The Liberation of the Beloslatina region from Ottoman rule”, “The Volunteer House”, “The Liberation of the town of Vratsa, the post-liberation administration and the role of the Provisional Russian administration in laying the foundations of civil governance”, “The Battle near the village of Novachene and the feat of the three ensigns buried in the Church of the Holy Ascension in Vratsa”, “The National Liberation struggles and the liberation of Vratsa in the pages of the newspaper ‘Chitalishchno delo’”, “The Volunteers – Heroes: Information about volunteers from the Vratsa region in the personal archive of Bogdan Nikolov”, “Volunteers from Vratsa who became founders of the first cavalry”. It also includes texts on the liberation of Tipchenitsa, Gabare, Rakevo, Pudriya and volunteers from the villages of Lik, Tipchenitsa, Moravitsa, and Chiren, as well as folk legends and songs about the battle near Oryahovo.
The second part – “Along the Alley of Immortality” presents the activities of school groups, extracurricular Kraevedenie programs, and youth clubs, along with their initiatives and events dedicated to the anniversary. Full descriptions of their multimedia presentations, stored in the Local History Department fund, are organized in a bibliography.
